“One of the reasons why I’ve been successful and I’ve been able to maintain a career is that I got to sit behind great engineers and great producers, great arrangers and great musicians, and I got to hear through their ears and their techniques and got to experience what great-sounding records sounded like. And more importantly what great-feeling records sound like. If you do that enough it becomes part of your DNA, it becomes part of you. If I’d never had that opportunity, I don’t think I would be as good as I am now.”
